Which framework to choose - OpenStack, AWS, Heroku, CloudFoundry!

Ashutosh Bijoor

Thanks to Alex Popsecu’s NoSql blog, found a well articulated thesis by Johan den Haan, CTO at Mendix. Johan proposes a framework that describes the various layers of cloud platform services starting from virtualized hardware up to end-user software applications.

How to choose a NoSQL database looking at the technology capabilities and limitations

Ashutosh Bijoor

The big data technology landscape consists of such a large number of choices, that often the most critical step in successfully implementing a solution is choosing the right platform that will address the requirements of the problem at hand, and that is sustainable in the long term.

Data Engineering

Data Engineering has become increasingly relevant in the highly-connected, AI driven world. Today, data architectures are as vast and varied as the use-cases they support. For most of us, data architecture simply meant running an RDBMS for all of our needs, from transactional read-write workloads to ad-hoc point and scan analytics loads. As data grew in numbers more use-cases for data-driven products such as fraud detection systems, recommender systems, personalization services came into existence.

Data engineers entered the field to solve our problems by introducing specialized data stores for example; search engines, graph engines, large scale data processing such as Spark, NoSQL, stream processing and the machinery to glue them together like ETL pipelines, Kafka, Sqoop, Flume.

Performing Big Data Analytics using Apache Spark for .NET

Adarsh Nagamangala Sreenivasan

Big Data is not a cult. We are living on the verge of a revolution that is touching every industry, business, and life on this planet. With millions of tweets, iMessage’s, Live streams, Facebook, and Instagram posts… terabytes and petabytes of data are being generated every second. And getting meaningful insight from this data is quite a challenge since the traditional databases and data warehouses are not able to handle the processing demands of these big data sets. One of the reasons is that these data sets need to be updated frequently and often in real-time as in case of stocks, application performance monitoring or user’s online activities. In response to the growing demand for tools and technologies for big data analytics, many organizations turned to NoSQL databases and Hadoop along with some of its companions’ analytics tools including YARN, MapReduce, Spark, Hive, Kafka, etc.
